We're part of the video revolution, and so are you

If people were to ask me why a newspaper our size spends so much time on video, I'd tell them about Cody Rapol and Anderson Cooper.

You may be familiar with Cooper, one of CNN's star anchors. And you may remember Rapol, a young Roseville man who loves to shoot his own videos.

Both are featured on YouTube, a Web site that allows anyone to upload and display their digital videos to the world. When I have time, I search YouTube for videos related to the Zanesville area.

On Friday, I found a video Rapol produced shortly after Ohio's smoking ban went into effect in December. You can watch it by visiting my blog. Some of the language is raw, but I think it's worth watching.
Having the ability to upload your own mini-documentary is pretty cool. What's even cooler about YouTube is its willingness to let people post video replies.
One man responded to Rapol's video by describing how his father died of cancer. His story is wrenching and especially powerful. A North Carolina woman who used to live in Dresden also posted a response. You can see their videos on the blog, too.
