In 2001, Michigan State University, Michigan Office of Services to the Aging, Michigan Association of Adult Day Care Centers, and Michigan Association of Senior Centers focused on the problems of aging, disability, loss of mobility. These conditions often lead to the decline in social support and network: resulting in greater isolation, decline in mental health, and decline in quality of life.
The study focused on the use of Telewindows (telecom technology using audio, video and network technology) to aid senior conditions. Sometimes there would be conversation, many times it would merely give the senior a sense of being in the same room as others.
The results of the study were encouraging. Although 2001 technology expense hindered the size of sample by 60% due to costs.
